Coloring tricks and fun facts about Nativity

Coloring tricks:

Soft blues, warm browns, and sandy yellows give the scene a calm look, while a bright yellow star can pull the whole picture together.

Keep the animals simple with a few shades of brown, gray, or cream. Little kids don’t need twelve different colors for one sheep.

Color the robes in different shades instead of making everyone match. It makes it easier to spot Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the Wise Men at a glance.

Fun facts:

Matthew’s Gospel tells of Wise Men who came to see Jesus and brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Bible doesn’t give a number for the Wise Men. The familiar idea of three comes from the three gifts mentioned in Matthew’s account.

St. Francis of Assisi set up the very first live nativity scene back in 1223 inside a mountain cave.

Nativity displays in Naples famously feature extra townspeople like butchers, cobblers, and pizza makers.

The word manger comes straight from an old French verb that literally means to eat.
